【Abstract】For our trip to the town of Hana, we spent half a day at the Kīpahulu district of Haleakala National Park. This is a major attraction close to Hana. It features a hike through bamboo forest ending at a beautiful waterfall, and a bunch of sacred pools used only by the native royalties as a natural bathing place in the past.
我們在 Hana 鎮上停留的兩天一夜，最重要的景點，就是造訪前兩天去過的 Haleakala national park 的另外一個海岸區域。這個區域叫 Kīpahulu district，最主要的景點，是一條穿過竹林的 hiking trail，路的底端有一個瀑布。另外，在這個區域的海邊，許多由河水注入形成的小池塘，在當地土著的傳統中是神聖的地方，只有王室才可以來這裡洗澡。Kīpahulu district 是 Hana 小鎮附近最大的景點，我覺得風景不錯，值得花個半天來走走。
通往瀑布的 trail 並不難走。才上路沒多久，就看到路邊顯眼的一棵大樹，讓我們看得非常入迷。

再往前走一小段路，樹林旁邊有一個小開口，可以看到一片綠的山谷，跟一個小瀑布。地處熱帶的夏威夷，氣候潮溼多雨，四面望去都是一片綠，這對加州來的我們來說特別新鮮。

再順著路往前，沿路兩旁的樹漸漸被竹林取代。這麼大片的竹林，究竟是有人特別種植（我覺得不像），還是自然地和別種樹爭得這麼一塊地，我不是森林系的，看不太出什麼結論。漫步在竹林裡，跟平常習慣的 hiking 感覺稍有那麼不同，竹子細細長長，但長得又高又密，幾乎無法透過任何光線，只有小路正頭頂上的部分落進一點點陽光。這個 hiking trail 單程總長 2 miles，應該是輕而易舉的事，但可能是天氣熱，也可能是前兩天才走了十幾 miles 的原因，走著走著竟然也有些累。

一路上除了竹林之外，偶爾也可以從小橋上看到溪水流過。因為地勢的關係，這裡的溪流會形成一個個的小瀑布和瀑布下面的小水塘。在當地原住民的習俗裡，這些水塘是神聖的，只有王室才可以來這邊洗澡。當然，變成國家公園之後，就變成全民共有，大家都可以下去玩的地方了（trail 這邊的 pools 沒看到路可以下去，接近海的下游才容易下去）。

最後，在 trail 的底端迎接我們的，就是眼前高聳的石壁和垂直而下的瀑布了。因為這條 trail 人偏多，遊客到了路底之後，會在可以看到瀑布的平台小塞車，大家要排隊輪流跟瀑布合照後才轉頭從原路離去。

看完了瀑布的 trail，回到 visitor center，另外一條 trail 帶我們走向海邊，參觀古代只有王室成員才可以使用的天然洗澡池。這些在接二連三的小瀑布之間，天然形成的水池，不但一直有源源不絕的活水注入，又可以看到海景，對古代人來說的確是絕佳的洗澡地點。但是這邊風相當大，池水也頗冷，對習慣現代生活的我來說，看看是可以，若說要洗澡，可能也不是真那麼享受。
