上次我錯過的 Alkali Flat trail(因為風太大吹倒了路標而關閉),今天終於可以走了。這是一個 loop trail,一路帶遊客深入白沙遍地的沙丘,最後來到一個白色的沈積平原,雖然這只是一個 5 miles 左右,沒有海拔起伏的 trail,但因地理的特殊性,使得它相對地危險,trail head 告示牌上的警語也寫得特別長。首先,在這一路上,四面八方都是高高低低的白色沙丘,一望無際,唯一可以幫助遊客辨別方向的,是國家公園安插在沙地裡的橘紅色小路標,如果風沙造成能見度不佳,在走 trail 時無法看到下一個路標的話,就要循原路折返,不然一旦走進無邊無際,四面看起來都一個樣的白沙漠裡,就很容易迷路。沙漠氣候白天熱,夜晚冷,又容易脫水,出發之前也要特別注意有沒有帶夠水。另外因為白沙國家保護區附近就是飛彈試射場,告示還特別提醒遊客不要去碰路上發現的"不明物品",萬一是炸彈就不好了。
