今天在 Cisco 聽了一場發常好的 talk,主講人是 Dr. Douglas Comer,他是 Purdue 的教授,今年似乎是 on leave 並且在 Cisco research 工作。
這個演講的主題是 Advice on Your Research Career,Dr. Comer 以前輩的身分,建議剛開始 research career 的 young Phd,應該要如何展開自己的 career。
整個 talk 非常的 motivating,在這分享我特別有感觸的幾點:
1. Ask your self how you want your research career to turn out; set up a conscious goal accordingly.
2. Make TIME for research. You are in charge of your career.
3. You are too young to tell what you can ever achieve. Don't put a limit to yourself.
4. Assessing research by its IMPACT.
5. Find and do what only you can do.
有時候命運是很奇妙的東西。十年前我因為 Douglas Comer 寫的 Internetworking with TCP/IP 一書,一頭跳進電腦網路的領域。十年後,在我拿到 Phd,打算開始 research career 的時候,又和 Dr. Comer 相會。聽大師一席話,受益良多,特別為文記之。
